Tampa Red Light Cameras

About two years ago, many counties in Florida, including Hillsborough County, began installing red light cameras at certain intersections. There is a raging debate on whether these red light cameras will improve safety, whether they will be accurate in charging the correct person when a car runs a red light, and whether it is an invasion of privacy under the Constitution. Here is a link to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office website outlining some new intersections that have been wired with red light cameras.
It is possible that with more red light cameras, many potential car accidents may be recorded on camera. This could prove very useful in establishing liability against negligent drivers and red light runners. Typically, whether someone runs a red light is always a point of contention in a car accident case that involves a traffic signal.
Unless there is a witness who comes forward, or unless there is a police officer on scene at the time the accident occurred, it unfortunately can come down to a “he said, she said” situation of who is at fault. It then becomes important to look at the points of impact at which the vehicles collided and where in the intersection the accident occurred. If you’ve been injured in a car accident, talk with a Tampa personal injury lawyer about who was at fault for the accident and about establishing liability against the negligent driver.
