Alimony reform may be coming (again) to Florida. There is a bill pending before the Florida Legislature that seeks to reform (yet again) Florida’s alimony laws. However, this bill has a provision that provides for the elimination of permanent alimony here in Florida family law cases and offers provisions to make it easier to modify alimony upon the payor’s retirement. A version of the bill has already passed the Florida House of Representatives (House Bill 549) and is now being considered by the Florida Senate (Senate Bill 748). If you have strong feelings for or against reform, now may be ideal time to contact your state senator or congressional representative and make your voice heard.
