On Saturday, October 24, 2015, while walking with his children, 40-year-old Maurice Savalas Harris was struck by a pickup truck on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Harris was pinned beneath the truck and was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries sustained. The two children were not hurt.
The accident involved Bryce O’Neill, who was driving a 2012 GMC pickup truck. A collision occurred involving a 2000 Ford minivan, which was driven by Toshia McPherson. Both vehicles went over the median.
The pickup truck went over a curb and hit a sign, but that wasn’t enough to stop it from entering the grounds of St. Joseph’s Hospital where it struck the victim and eventually came to a stop against the Medical Arts Building’s south wall. Investigations are still ongoing and no charges have been filed.
