A single-vehicle crash on the exit ramp from Interstate 275 southbound to Interstate 175 eastbound claimed the life of a St. Petersburg woman and seriously injured another.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the St. Petersburg woman was driving her vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Durango, down I-275 south towards the I-175 exit ramp in the early evening on Sunday, November 13. At approximately 5:33 p.m., she turned on to the exit ramp, where she then lost control of her vehicle, drove off the road, crashed into and over a concrete barrier. The vehicle then fell 70 feet down off the overpass before crashing onto the ground below.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the passenger was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg after sustaining serious injuries where she is currently listed in serious condition. Officials don’t believe that alcohol factored into the crash, but they reported that neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. They are not releasing any further information about the crash at this time.
This is the second crash to occur on this exit ramp in the past two weeks according to FOX 13, though details about that crash were not included in their article.
