Since 1984, Mediation and Diversion Services in Hillsborough County offers a mediation service for parties navigating family law related issues. The program has evolved since 1984 and is now equipped to be able to mediate nearly all family law issues, including child custody, timesharing, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, attorney's fee claims, as well as post-judgment issue such as modifications and contempt or enforcement actions. Mediation has become a prerequisite in almost all family law cases going through the court system. The judiciary has the authority to order mediation in almost all family law cases, and almost always does so.
Mediation and Diversion Services, located on the second floor of courthouse at 800 East Twiggs Street, Tampa, Florida 33602, can often be an inexpensive alternative to a private mediator. For parties with a combined gross income of less than $50,000 the cost is $60 per party. For parties with a combined income over $50,000, the cost is $120 per party. Parties considering this option must note however, that this type of mediation is capped at a two hour time limit. While that may seem like a sufficient amount of time for some, as a family law practitioner I know that it is very difficult to settle a case with multiple issues in that time frame. Because each case is unique, consult with your attorney about the best type of mediation service you should utilize.
