Divorce's Effect on Children

Lane DeGregory wrote a fantastic article in yesterday's Tampa Bay Times about a young girl and a camp for troubled girls. The story begins, following a young teenage girl, returning to a camp that she visited as part of her outreach as a pageant queen. The story highlights the contrasts and similarities between the queen and the other girls. The article takes a turn as the pageant queen's childhood is detailed. The girl's parents were involved in a contentious divorce that began when the child was 2.
The author traveled to the courthouse to research the divorce, and found a case file that was 13 folders thick, and interviewed both parents about their experiences in the family law system. I won't spoil the story for you, but the article is a great example of what can happen when parties cannot avoid fighting, even after their divorce is final.
