In a collision on Saturday in Tampa, a 19-year-old motorcyclist was traveling east on Hillsborough Ave. around 11:45 P.M. when a vehicle turned in front of him from Reflections Club Drive. The motorcyclist attempted to brake, but instead crashed into the vehicle at the intersection and was thrown off his Yamaha motorcycle. According to troopers, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.
This is further proof that motorcycle accidents can have serious and life-changing consequences.
The dangers associated with motorcycle accidents have been noted numerous times. As was the case in this accident, a motorcyclist is susceptible to ejection from their motorcycle if they collide with another vehicle. There are no seatbelts or metal frames to hold the rider into a confined space. Instead, a collision can send a motorcyclist off his or her bike depending on the speed they were traveling at the time of the accident.
Motorcycle accidents can cause catastrophic injuries such as brain damage, broken bones, lacerations, road rash, and more. Obviously, more severe injuries and death can also be the result of a motorcycle accident.
It is important to make sure you pay close attention to your surroundings as a driver or motorcyclist. There is only a limited amount of protection provided for motorcyclists and even then, some riders do not take the proper precautions. Even worse, some drivers fail to watch for motorcyclists. When another driver is negligent and causes an accident with a motorcyclist, they may be held accountable for damages they may cause.
You should take the time to understand your rights as a motorcyclist. The results of an accident can be catastrophic. If you are a driver, make sure you respect others on the road, including motorcyclists who may be in your blind spots or coming from another direction.
